We are currently seeking a temporary full time Laboratory Technician to cover while the substantive occupant is on long service leave from Tuesday 9 June to Thursday 15 October inclusive.

<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>We are currently seeking a temporary full time Laboratory Technician to cover while the substantive occupant is on long service leave from <strong>Tuesday 9 June to Thursday 15 October</strong> inclusive. This is a pivotal <strong>term-time only </strong>position that assists our Science Department with the preparation of experiments, chemicals, glassware and equipment for student activities, teacher demonstrations, and assessment tasks. If you have a passion for Science, the ability to maintain our labs and storerooms, and can ably collaborate with teachers for experiment set-up, we’d love to hear from you.</p>
<p><strong>What You Will Do</strong></p>
<p><i>Prepare and Set up Laboratories for Science Experiments</i></p>
<ul>
<li>Prepare for science experiments by setting up labs for practical activities</li>
<li>Ensure the availability of experiment chemicals, glassware and equipment, including computers and software</li>
<li>Label chemical solutions on bottle jars and dropper bottles with GHS labels</li>
<li>Ensure equipment is put out, assembled or tested in advance as required</li>
<li>Prepare chemicals by weight, and dilute or use titration techniques as required</li>
<li>Prepare risk assessments for student and teacher experiments / prep room preparations</li>
<li>Write up experiment procedures, print out summaries and leave in labelled experiment trays for each class. </li>
</ul>
<p><i>Service Science Labs, Prep Room and Storage Room</i></p>
<ul>
<li>Clean and maintain the prep room, storage room, chemical storeroom and all labs</li>
<li>Restock and tidy labs, and ensure required equipment repairs</li>
<li>Check chemicals and autoclave agar plates for contamination</li>
<li>Check or clean safety showers, eye wash stations, and microscopes</li>
<li>Organise the removal of waste and chemicals from all labs</li>
<li>Organise the laundering of lab coats, cotÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú gloves and cotÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú aprons</li>
</ul>
<p> <i>Administration</i></p>
<ul>
<li>Write risk assessments, distribute these to teachers and students, and ensure copies are retained on file</li>
<li>Update chemical labels and Safe Data Sheets</li>
<li>Maintain chemical and equipment registers</li>
<li>Order or purchase equipment in person.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What You Will Bring</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A Science Degree, Science Technician Certificate or related tertiary qualification</li>
<li>Knowledge of Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology and Physics</li>
<li>Experience working in a science laboratory, and preferably within a school</li>
<li>Sound knowledge in relation to working with chemicals – e.g. classifications, GHS labels, storage, handling and disposal</li>
<li>Innovation, initiative, resourcefulness and a willingness to help with ideas for experiments and projects</li>
<li>Mathematical ability for chemical dilution and solution composition</li>
<li>Effective research skills in seeking out new technologies, practicals and resources for colleagues</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, with high levels of approachability</li>
<li>Ability to be organised, hard-working and reliable</li>
<li>Strong ICT skills, and familiarity with Vernier Sensor / software, and ChemWatch<i>/ </i>RiskAssess programs for schools</li>
<li>Drivers licence and own transport.</li>
<li>Current Working with Children Check Clearance (WWCC) and First Aid / CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain).</li>
</ul>
