Taqwa School Principal will serve as the chief academic and administrative leader, responsible for advancing the school’s mission, overseeing daily operations, and fostering a culture of integrity, achievement, and inclusivity.

<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p> <p>1. Strategic Leadership &amp; Governance</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement short/long-term strategies to achieve the Board’s goals, including school registration, policy development, and compliance with ACT legislative requirements.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ensure alignment of school operations with the Strategic Plan, Islamic ethos, and Australian Curriculum standards.&nbsp;</li> <li>Report to the Board on financial, operational, and educational outcomes, ensuring transparency and accountability.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>2. Operational &amp; Financial Management</p> <ul> <li>Oversee day-to-day operations, including staff recruitment, performance management, and resource allocation.&nbsp;</li> <li>Optimize financial sustainability through budgeting, grants, and community partnerships.&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage compliance with statutory requirements (e.g., child safety, workplace laws).&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>3. Educational Excellence &amp; Staff Development</p> <ul> <li>Foster a professional learning community focused on high-quality teaching, data-driven improvement, and staff wellbeing.&nbsp; <ul> <li>Lead curriculum development and assessment strategies to maximize student outcomes (e.g., NAPLAN, holistic growth).&nbsp;</li> <li>Implement mentoring programs and succession planning for staff leadership.&nbsp;</li> </ul></li> </ul> <p>4. Community &amp; Stakeholder Engagement</p> <ul> <li>Strengthen relationships with parents, local Masjids and interstate Islamic societies / networks. <ul> <li>Promote the school’s profile through marketing, partnerships, and participation in broader ACT educational initiatives.&nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinate parent involvement and community programs.</li> <li>Model and uphold Taqwa ethos and values, fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for students and staff.&nbsp;</li> <li>Develop pastoral care strategies to enhance student resilience and wellbeing.&nbsp;</li> <li>Champion diversity and accessibility, including support for students with special needs.&nbsp;</li> </ul></li> </ul> <p><strong>Selection Criteria</strong></p> <p><strong>Leadership</strong></p> <p>The principal must demonstrate the ability to lead with integrity, purpose, and a deep commitment to student and staff wellbeing. This includes creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment where all members of the community feel valued and supported in their roles.</p> <p>As a strong educational leader, the principal will bring a sound understanding of how students learn and use that knowledge to improve teaching across the school. They will lead school improvement by setting high expectations, using data to inform decisions, and supporting teachers to grow through effective feedback and professional learning.</p> <p>As a role model, the principal must embody the values of the school and demonstrate them through their everyday actions and decisions. Their conduct should inspire trust, build unity, and foster a positive school culture.</p> <p>Finally, the principal must be able to lead with vision bringing staff, students, and families together around shared beliefs and long-term goals. This involves promoting the school’s values in a way that aligns the whole community and helps every student reach their full potential.</p> <p><strong>Teaching</strong></p> <ul> <li>Preparing learning programs</li> </ul> <p>Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare teaching and learning programs which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; and are consistent with relevant syllabi, curriculum policies, work programs and education trends;</p> <ul> <li>Implement effective teaching</li> </ul> <p>Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment, to establish a challenging learning environment in which students are encouraged to work towards attainment of their potential;</p> <ul> <li>Effective communication</li> </ul> <p>Ability to communicate effectively with students including the use of appropriate interpersonal skills, and the ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive learning environment.</p> <p>&nbsp;Multi-cultural and faith-based environment</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to learn and work in a multi-cultural and faith-based environment.</li> <li>Ability and willingness to work with, and seek guidance from, the Head of Islamic studies to ensure school ethos and values are upheld.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<strong>Qualifications &amp; Experience</strong></p> <p>Essential:</p> <ul> <li>Good understanding of Islamic principles, Taqwa ethos and values – and demonstrated ability to be able to work within an Islamic environment.</li> <li>Master’s degree in Education Leadership/Management (or equivalent).&nbsp;</li> <li>Registration with ACT Teacher Quality Institute (or eligibility).&nbsp;</li> <li>5+ years in senior educational leadership (e.g., Principal, Deputy Principal).&nbsp;</li> <li>Deep understanding of the Australian Curriculum and inclusive education frameworks.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;Desirable:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in an Islamic school.&nbsp;</li> <li>Knowledge of ACT regulatory requirements for independent schools.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;Why Join Us?</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead a purpose-driven school during an exciting growth phase.&nbsp;</li> <li>Competitive remuneration and professional development opportunities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Supportive Board and engaged community.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;How to Apply:</strong></p> <p>Submit a resume (max. 3 pages), 2-page response to the selection criteria, and referee contacts to [<a href="mailto:taqwa.boardchair@isb.org.au?subject=School%20Principal%20%20position%20%28via%20Teachers%20On%20Net%29">taqwa.boardchair@isb.org.au</a>].&nbsp;</p>
